Dr. Ayesha Ali has joined us as Assistant Professor-Tenure Track in the Department of Economics - (MGSHSS).

She recently obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto, Canada in 2016 after completing her MA in International Policy Studies from Stanford University, MA in Economics from University of British Columbia and Bachelor’s in Economics & Finance from McGill University, Canada.

Dr. Ali’s current research is in the field of development and energy economics with a special focus on electricity markets and electricity demand in developing countries. Her PhD dissertation examined the effect of electricity shortages on household income and employment in Pakistan. She is also working on a project examining the development policies of dynastic politicians in Pakistan.

Prior to starting her PhD, she worked as an Economic Policy Consultant for the World Bank and USAID.

   Her research interests include:

  • Energy Economics
  • Consumption
  • Political Economy

Dr Ali has a keen interest in world history and architecture and likes to travel in her leisure time.
