Conference
The Pathways to Development Conference 2025 returns for its fourth year — spotlighting cutting-edge research in development economics. From inclusive growth and inequality to public finance, education, labor, land, and climate, the conference explores the economic foundations of equitable development and effective governance in South Asia.
In 2024, the conference brought together over 50 researchers, policymakers, and thought leaders from institutions like Princeton, Yale, the World Bank, and LSE to explore urgent questions of governance and inclusion. With powerful keynote addresses from Dr. Lant Pritchett, Dr. Mazhar Waseem, and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the three-day gathering tackled themes like taxation, climate justice, gender inequality, and South Asia’s development trajectory. Sessions highlighted new research and sparked meaningful collaboration across disciplines.
In 2023, the focus centered on poverty alleviation, education, and public health—key pillars of Pakistan’s development. Dr. Stefan Dercon’s keynote on the political economy of economic policy kicked off a dynamic series of panels featuring comparative insights from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh. The program also spotlighted pioneering work on child stunting, labor markets, and women’s empowerment in technology.
Join leading scholars and practitioners from around the world as we gather at LUMS, Lahore, from September 11–13 2025 for the fourth iteration of the conference
