About the  Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre (MHRC) 

Its vision is to co-construct knowledge on critical challenges with a community of scholars, students, practitioners and social actors to bring about transformative change for an inclusive and equitable society.

The Centre was founded in 1995 by Dr. Mahbub ul Haq, the pioneer of the Human Development Index and Human Development Reports at the UNDP. It was established as a research institute to promote human development in South Asia and began the tradition of producing the Human Development in South Asia Reports. It became part of the Lahore University of Management Sciences on 1st July 2016.

Research Fellows

As fellows of the MHRC, academics, researchers and area experts come together to explore issues of human development, social exclusion, and inequality across South Asia. Through their research, the fellows play an integral role in working towards the Centre’s goal of a more equitable and inclusive society.

Research Assistant 
The MHRC is hiring a full-time Research Assistant for an exciting project on improving tax compliance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, led by Dr. Sher Afghan Asad (LUMS) and Dr. Isabelle Cohen (University of Washington) in collaboration with the KP Revenue Authority. This twelve-month position is based in Peshawar and involves supporting the implementation of a randomized controlled trial (RCT), working closely with data, coordinating with field teams and public sector partners, and assisting in stakeholder engagement.

Research Associate
Dr. Sher Afghan Asad (LUMS) and Maham Rasheed (Northeastern University) are looking to hire a Research Associate for the project on Gender Discrimination in Digital Marketplaces. This project is funded by Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL), a research initiative under the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).

The Research Associate will work closely with the PIs to lead the project's overall implementation. This is a full-time, hybrid position, with occasional field visits required in Lahore. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of development, gender, and digital economics.
