Dr. Tom Sewel obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Glasgow and his PhD from the University of Calgary. His PhD thesis, Spirits in the Gutters: The British Invasion and the Haunting of the Twentieth Century analyses the impact and influence on US comics of the so-called British Invasion writers of the 1980s and 1990s, such as Alan Moore, Grant Morrison, Neil Gaiman, and Warren Ellis. 

His key research interests are: Comics and graphic narrative, literary theory, speculative fiction, materiality, and the literary baroque.
